In this week issue of Time Magazine,Andy Grove Co-founder of Intel,microprocessor chips

talks about the need for disruptive technologies in Medicine.The necessity for this arises now in order to improve medicine and health care industry in general.The rapid growth of computer and other artificial intelligence has necessitated the need for transferring such technologies to medicine world.

Medicine is still a very conservative industry,Technologies are viewed as a fad that will soon fade out in time.But some of the important technologies which were developed for applications other than medicine have offered important insights into medical world.

For example,Ultrasound technology was used by the military in World War II as Sonar detection by Ships to locate enemy submarines.Today,they have very important diagnostic applications.

In the world today,2/3 Rd’s of the diseases cannot be completely cured.The remaining 1/3 of the disease afflicting humans,we are able to only cure the symptoms.

The main pithfalls are slow development of technologies. Medical technology plays a decisive role in the 21st century.It is a multi disciplinary field with applications in broad field of topics.

Surgical procedures,which required a lenghty stay in the hospitals can now be performed as a day procedure.This reduces the strain on the hospitals and also allows the patient to be mobilised quickly.
